Parent Enrichment Training
As parents we are often faced with realities that can challenge our ability to manage our household. Whether it is due to the loss of a job, death of a loved one, marital discord, or any other life stressors, the impact of such can affect the entire family. As adults we are often better equipped to deal with these challenges; however children can reach inaccurate conclusions about life events that can become problematic. These can be anything from blaming themselves for their parents’ arguing, to feeling like they are the cause of someone’s unhappiness, or even thinking they have the ability to cause someone to die. Not all children are able to put in words their hurt and unhappiness and as a result, behavioral issues can arise. Maladaptive behaviors can manifest themselves at school, at home and even with their peers.
If you are a parent that is struggling to manage your child’s behavior don’t despair and remind yourself that children were not born with an owner’s manual. Being a parent is the most difficult role in the world but it can also be the most rewarding. Parent Enrichment Training will help you recreate order in your household and help you begin to reconnect with your children. You will gradually begin to notice that your time with your children is less occupied by their problematic behaviors and more focused on enjoying your time together. You are your partner will also have the opportunity to focus on other areas of your lives besides the issues with your children.
Parent Enrichment Training is a 6 weeks training program that includes both home visits and individual sessions for the parents and children in our safe and comfortable office. The program is individualized based on your areas of need. A trained therapist will typically work with the family in their home for the first 3 weeks and make additional home visits in the last 3 weeks as needed. Visits are from 1 to 2 hours at a time and are determined by the family. Visits can occur at anytime; breakfast, lunch, dinner, or bedtime. It is important that the therapist is exposed to the times when you are having the most difficulty managing your child. Therapist will guide you throughout every step of the way and will only intervene with your child in your presence when needed. The therapist is not there to replace you as a parent, but to strengthen your parental skills.
