Paul Greenberg

Master’s Level Intern

(Supervised by Jenifer Balch, PhD., LPC-S, RPT-S..)

Paul is an internship student in Southern Methodist University’s M.S. in Counseling Program. He has experience working with adolescents and adults overcoming challenges related to depression, trauma, substance use, difficult life transitions, grief and loss (to include suicide), and helping clients to find more adaptive ways to deal with anger and emotional regulation. A military veteran of 21 years, Paul is eager to work with veterans, first-responders, and all those struggling with the effects of stress and trauma in his role as a therapist.

He uses Internal Family Systems and mindfulness-based techniques in his work with clients. He believes that individuals possess the innate ability to cultivate and express their compassion (for self and others), courage, confidence, and creativity in the world. Meditation and mindfulness are powerful tools, and Paul utilizes these in his sessions to empower clients to reclaim their agency and redirect their thinking so that they can respond and act in accordance with their core values.

Paul is an ally and advocate for LGBTQ+ individuals and welcomes clients from this community. For those struggling with substance abuse or process addictions, Paul provides respectful and motivational care, meeting clients where they are and joining them as a fellow traveler on their path of recovery.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, English, from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language from the School for International Training. He taught high school in Pennsylvania and Vermont, and English as a Second Language in South Korea, Morocco, Myanmar, and Thailand, where he served as a Peace Corps volunteer.
